First Lady to Host National Book Fest
Staff -- School Library Journal, 08/01/2001
The Library of Congress has announced plans for the first-ever National Book Festival, scheduled for September 8 at the library. First Lady Laura Bush will host the event, which will feature readings, music, performances, and book signings by noted authors for children and adults. The events will be held on the grounds of the Capitol and in the library, which will also host an open house. The event is modeled after the highly successful Texas Book Festival in Austin, chaired by Mrs. Bush since its 1995 inception. With the National Book Festival, the First Lady and the Library of Congress hope to encourage a nationwide celebration of books and the joy of reading.
