| The Notable Children's Videos, Recordings, Computer Software, and Web Sites are compiled annually by four committees of the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA). The lists were released during the ALA Midwinter Conference in Philadelphia, PA.
The items on these lists were selected by committees of librarians and educators from across the country on the basis of their originality, creativity, and suitability for young children. The members of the committees selected materials that respect both children's intelligence and imagination, exhibit venturesome creativity, and encourage the interests of users. |

| The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), has chosen ten videos for its 1999 Selected Videos for Young Adults list. The annual list recognizes videos for technical merit, content, use with and interest to youth ages 12-18.
The videos were screened, discussed, and selected by the Selected Videos for Young Adults Committee during the ALA Midwinter Meeting in Philadelphia, PA. Adding an extra dimension and insightful comments to the process were teens from the 8th grade from the West Deptford (NJ) Middle School, the 12th grade from the West Deptford (NJ) High School, and members of the Youth Advisory Council of the Free Library of Philadelphia. The videos selected for the list cover a wide range of topics and include a variety of film techniques and styles -- from documentaries to animations to computer simulations. |
