Just Arrived: Florida Born to Read Project
Staff -- School Library Journal, 11/1/1997
Low-income teen parents in 10 Florida communities will soon have access to early literacy and health counseling as part of the state's new Born to Read project. To foot the bill for the one-year project, Florida State Library Program Specialist Carole Fiore netted a federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant for $90,000 and awarded $6,250 to each of 10 public libraries. The funds will cover transportation to Born to Read events for parents and giveaways, such as books and Born to Read bibs. The remainder of the funds will bring 30 librarians, health care representatives, and others to a two-day workshop in November at the state library.
