Fairfax County (VA) Library System Keeps Open Access

Staff -- School Library Journal, 12/1/1997

The Fairfax County (VA) Library's board of trustees voted seven to three recently to reject a plan that would have assisted parents who wanted to keep their children under 13 from using the Internet in the library. The plan would have offered parents the option of signing a form that would have made the Internet off-limits to their children, according to the November 13 Washington Post. The library board of trustees in nearby Loudoun County took a different approach: they chose to install filtering software on all library terminals, whether used by children or adults.
