have decided to battle it out for the 1999-2000 ALA presidency. Gómez, as Executive Director of the Brooklyn (NY) Public Library, is responsible for the fifth largest public library system in the country. He is also a member of ALA's Executive Board. Sarah Long, Director of the North Suburban Library System, oversees an organization of 680 academic, public, school, and special libraries north of Chicago. She also served as the President of the Public Library Association from 1989 to 1990. Both candidates will address ALA's Midwinter Meeting at the Candidate's Forum in New Orleans. Ballots will be mailed to members at the end of February, and election results will be announced at the end of April.
