ALA To Study Youth Services
Staff -- School Library Journal, 2/1/1998
ALA is launching a study of public library youth programs, underwritten by a grant from the DeWitt Wallace-Reader's Digest Fund. According to the association, the one-year, $121,559 grant aims "to determine how public libraries currently operate youth programs, including types of program activities, youth served, funding sources, and partnerships in the community." The grant is part of a new DeWitt Wallace initiative in the area of public library programming for school-age children, ALA said. Project director for the study is Mary Jo Lynch, Director of ALA's Library and Research Center, and the survey director is Ed Lakner, Assistant Director of the Library Research Center at the University of Illinois's School of Library and Information Science.
