Gerhardt Tapped to Give 1999 Arbuthnot Lecture

The May Hill Arbuthnot Lecture Committee has chosen Lillian N. Gerhardt, Editor in Chief of School Library Journal, to give its 1999 lecture.
Each year, the committee chooses an individual of distinction in the field of children's literature to deliver a lecture. Chair Mary Rinato Berman said that "through her insightful and thought-provoking editorials, Lillian Gerhardt has challenged us to look at libraries and the issues that affect our patrons in an honest, clear-sighted way."
Gerhardt has lectured at the Columbia University School of Library Service and has received the Cahners Medal of Excellence, the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Southern Connecticut State University, and the Grolier Foundation Award.
