Member of British Parliament Wants Pooh Back in Britain

Staff -- School Library Journal, 3/1/1998

The New York Post, Feb. 5, 1998

Bedlam broke out in New York City last week when a British government official spied Winnie-the-Pooh, Christopher Robin's original stuffed animal, that is, at its home at the New York Public Library, and called for its return to England. It was not only Pooh that she declared unhappy in its climate-controlled case at the Donnell Branch: it was also Tigger, Kanga, Eeyore, and Piglet.

Upon hearing of the call to return the stuffed animals to their place of birth, Mayor Rudolph W. Guiliani promised to do "anything we can do to keep them here," according to the February 5 New York Times.
