ALA Targeted by Anti-Porn Group
Staff -- School Library Journal, 4/1/1998
A Family Friendly Libraries affiliate tried recently to put the force of law behind its contempt for the American Library Association. Shocked that state statutes called for public library directors from ALA-accredited schools, a group called Oklahomans for Children and Families (OCAF) went to state legislators to complain.
The result? A bill to delete the words "accredited by the American Library Association" from laws outlining the hiring of library directors and assistant directors. The bill ultimately failed, but OCAF vows to keep fighting what it calls ALA's "pro-pornography" agenda.
