They've thrown their names into the ring. Nancy Kranich, associate dean of libraries at New York University, and C. James Schmidt, university librarian at San Jose (CA) State University, are vying for the presidency of the American Library Association for the 2000-2001 term. The winner of the mail-ballot election this spring will serve as vice-president/president elect in 1999-2000.Kranich recently completed a four-year term on ALA's Executive Board. Schmidt is former president of the Freedom to Read Foundation.
