Sylvan Learning Systems Enters Nonprofit Realm with Reading Motivation Program

Staff -- School Library Journal, 7/1/1999

There's a new kid on the block in the field of reading motivation programs, only this product has one major difference: it's free. The nonprofit arm of Sylvan Learning Systems has just launched Book Adventure, similar to popular computer reading programs such as Accelerated Reader and Electronic Bookshelf (now called Scholastic Reading Counts!).

Like its commercial counterparts, Book Adventure (www.bookadventure.org) has kids choose titles from a list, then earn points and prizes by taking computerized quizzes to verify they've read the books.
