PBS Arthur Show to Promote Libraries

Staff -- School Library Journal, 9/1/1999

Arthur's little sister, D. W., is old enough for a library card, but in order to get one she must first learn to sign her name. D. W.'s adventure will kick off the new season of Arthur, in which the popular PBS series pays special attention to libraries. The episode, "D. W.'s Library Card," will air October 4.

As part of the library initiative, Arthur's producers will send free resource kits to all the nation's public libraries and branches. The kits, designed with the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), aim to help libraries use the famous aardvark to entice more kids to read. School libraries are not eligible to receive the complete resource kit, but can request a program guide for libraries by writing to WGBH, Educational Print and Outreach, 125 Western Ave., Boston, MA 02134.
