E-Books Zapping Their Way to Library Network

Amigos libraries will be among first public libraries to circulate electronic books

Staff -- School Library Journal, 11/1/1999

NetLibrary (www.netlibrary.com), a company that sells electronic books over the Web, and Amigos Library Services (www.amigos.org), a Texas-based library network, have announced a deal in which up to 600 public, academic, and special libraries will circulate electronic books.

Neither netLibrary nor Amigos would reveal the cost for the three-year agreement, in which netLibrary will make 13,000 e-books available to Amigos member libraries through its site.

Users will access the netLibrary site through the libraries' Web sites, and once there, check out the e-books. There are no overdues with e-books because once the loan period is up, the title is no longer available to the user.
