Sydney Taylor Award
Ezra Jack Keats New Writer Award: This year's winner is Soyung Pak for her book, Dear Juno (Viking, 1999), illustrated by Susan Kathleen Hartung. The award is presented by the New York Public Library and the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation.
Charlotte Zolotow Award: Molly Bang, author of When Sophie Gets Angry--Really, Really Angryâ?¦ (Scholastic, 1999), won this award for outstanding writing in a picture book. The award is sponsored by the Cooperative Children's Book Center, a library of the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
Scott O'Dell Award: This annual award for historical fiction went to Miriam Bat-Ami for her novel, Two Suns in the Sky (Front Street/Cricket Bks., 1999).
Lee Bennett Hopkins Award: The winner is Naomi Shihab Nye for What Have You Lost? (Greenwillow, 1999). The award is presented to the most outstanding book of poetry for children by Pennsylvania State University's College of Education and University Libraries.
Theologos Award: This award, sponsored by the Association of Theological Booksellers, went to the Rev. Walter M. Wangerin Jr. for his book, Water, Come Down: The Day You Were Baptized (Augsburg Fortress, 1999), illustrated by Gerardo SuzA¡n.
