Honors a nonfiction book that advances humanitarian ideals and inspires young readers. Awarded by the Children's Book Committee of Bank Street College. Claudia Lewis Award: Stop Pretending: What Happened When My Big Sister Went Crazy by Sonya Sones (HarperCollins, 1999). Honors poetry for young readers. Awarded by the Children's Book Committee of Bank Street College. Hans Christian Andersen Award: For illustration, Anthony Browne. For writing, Ana Maria Machado. Presented biannually to an author and illustrator whose works have made a lasting contribution to children's literature. Awarded by the International Board on Books for Young People.
