Captain Underpants on boxers, briefs, and why adults don't like him
Staff -- School Library Journal, 6/1/2000
Why do you prefer briefs over boxers? Many people don't know this, but boxers are usually made with a cotton/polyester blended fabric. Briefs are almost always 100 percent cotton. It's really a comfort issue. Why do you think that some adults have made such a big stink over you? I don't know why disapproving adults make big stinks, but I wonder if it might be a personal hygiene problem? They should try bathing daily with soap and water. It works for me! Has there been a downside to your success? I guess the only downside to stardom is that it's hard to live a normal life when everybody recognizes you. I've tried wearing disguises, but people still know it's me. I don't know ... maybe it's the cape. Why do you think kids are so attracted to you? It's probably because of my dashing good looks and my athletic physique.
Given the censorious uproar surrounding the Captain Underpants books (some libraries have been asked to remove the bestsellers from their shelves), we thought it high time to get to the bottom of things. We funneled our deeply probing questions through the Captain's creator himself, writer Dav Pilkey, who lives in Seattle.
