Wanna Buy the Brooklyn Bridge?
New Pop-up Book Covers Famous Landmarks
Staff -- School Library Journal, 12/1/2000
Thanks to the Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) and the magic of paper engineering, it's now possible to purchase the Brooklyn Bridge for less than $20.
Brooklyn Pops Up (Little Simon, 2000), a pop-up book created by BPL and the Moveable Book Society (an organization of pop-up-loving artists and fans), features a brief history and tour of New York City's most populous borough. Best of all, the 16-page book has some whimsical artwork by the likes of Maurice Sendak and Robert Sabuda, both former Brooklynites.
One of our favorite Brooklyn landmarks is likely to send Julia Child running for the Alka-Seltzer: husband and wife artists Kees Moerbeek and Carla Dijs have created a kitchy Americana diner, stocked with the essentials--a 3-D Nathan's hot dog, a chocolate egg cream, and a mouthwatering cheesecake from Junior's. Bon appetit.--Rick Margolis
