'America the Beautiful' Online

Staff -- School Library Journal, 9/1/2001

Grolier Online has just released an electronic version of America the Beautiful (Children's Press), the multi-volume set already found in many libraries. The online America the Beautiful is an encyclopedia of the United States for grades four and up; it includes brief surveys of the nation's history, time lines, biographies, and histories of each of the 50 states, plus many maps and illustrations. The online version, however, is not the same as the print set; it contains 1,000,000 words of rewritten text and all new illustrations.

Prices start at $209. As with other Grolier Online products, subscribers to America the Beautiful must also subscribe to at least two of Grolier Online's encyclopedias—Encyclopedia Americana, Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia, or the New Book of Knowledge. A free trial is available at go.grolier.com until September 30.
