Library Jargon Revealed

Staff -- School Library Journal, 9/1/2001

Are there days when you find yourself trying to remember the difference between "microfiche," "microfilm," and "microforms"? Every occupation has its jargon, and parents, teachers, students and others who hang around in libraries may hear terminology that leaves them feeling a bit confused. The University of Utah's Marriott Library offers a quick online Glossary of Common Library Terms at www.lib.utah.edu/science/glossary.html. The glossary includes not only classic book-related terms, but others, like "Shockwave," "anonymous ftp," or ".zip," that the library user of 2001 is likely to encounter.
