National Book Awards finalists: The nominations for the 2001 award for young people's literature are The Tiger Rising (Candlewick) by Kate DiCamillo; We Were There, Too! Young People in U.S. History (Farrar) by Phillip Hoose; A Step from Heaven (Front Street) by An Na; Carver: A Life in Poems (Front Street) by Marilyn Nelson; and True Believer (Atheneum) by Virginia Euwer Wolff. The winner will be announced on November 14 at a New York City ceremony.
