Censorship Update

Staff -- School Library Journal, 11/1/2001

After much debate, the Anchorage, AK, School Board voted six to one last month to restrict elementary school access to the sex education book It's Perfectly Normal (Candlewick, 1996) by Robie Harris (October 2001, News ). Because of its graphic illustrations and frank discussion of masturbation, among other topics, the book may be checked out by elementary school kids only with their parents' permission. The board allowed unrestricted access at middle and high schools.
