SMART Board Stands Out
Meg McCaffrey -- School Library Journal, 01/01/2002
Imagine software that will give you a hand with absentee kids, or with students who often need lessons repeated. With SMART Recorder, by simply speaking into a standard microphone, educators can capture their lectures on a computer file, thanks to new SMART Board software for Windows. Students can then listen to the file at a later time, and see what the teacher wrote—as long as they have Windows Media Player and computer speakers. "If students missed a class or need review, they no longer have to rely on a classmate's notes," says Susan Mader, manager, marketing communications of SMART Technologies, Inc.
The SMART Recorder works only with a SMART Board, an interactive whiteboard. The suggested list price for a SMART Board ranges from $1,599 to $1,999, but the SMART Recorder is free and may be downloaded from SMART's Web site. Grants are available to educational institutions through the SMARTer Kids Foundation for 25 percent of the cost of the Boards. For an online demo, visit www.smarttech.com/recorder.
