New Product- Leon to the Rescue
Meg McCaffrey -- School Library Journal, 1/1/2002
Leon the Chameleon, spaceship-flying ants, and Albert Einstein (a cartoon version, not the actual genius) may be able to help motivate kids to learn. They're all found on iKnowthat.com , a Web site that offers access to hundreds of Web-based educational activities and games—in math, reading, geography, and other subjects that aim to make learning fun for kids aged two to 12.
In the new game, Leon's Math Dojo, kids face increasingly difficult addition and subtraction problems. "Kids are rewarded when they get the answers right by seeing Leon perform cool karate moves," notes spokesperson Beth Blenz-Clucas.
The iKnowthat.com people also add a fun twist to science lessons. Kids can launch food at Einstein in an intergalactic cafeteria, while learning about geometric angles and trajectory. To discover how light works, kids can zap a light saber at robotic space ants as they parachute down into cities and towns. The site is supported by subscriptions, not ads. The cost for a family membership is $34.95 per year. A classroom membership is $199 per year.
