Winslow Files for Chapter 11
Staff -- School Library Journal, 4/1/2002
Winslow Press, the publisher that attempted to integrate children's and young adult books with its Web site, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Winslow hoped to avoid that predicament by securing $400,000 in new investments, but the funding never materialized.
Now known as Winslow House, the publisher was forced to lay off more than half of its 20 employees. Its office in New York City is still operating, but an office in Delray Beach, FL, has been closed.
Winslow plans to continue publishing two popular series, Dear Mr. President , with five titles now in print, and the Hourglass Adventures , a four-volume paperback time-travel series aimed at middle school girls.
