The London Public Library in Ontario, Canada, will open a new Media Literacy Centre in August, thanks to a $200,000 donation from CHUM Television. The new center will feature five computer workstations, overseen by specially trained staff who will help visitors access online information. A range of media education programming will also be developed and delivered on-site and online.
The Wired for Youth Center (WFY) at the Carver Branch of the Austin (TX) Public Library is the recipient of a $1,250 grant from Noggin TV. It is the first award in the educational network's Charitable Giving Initiative, which provides grants to organizations that foster innovative, kid-driven learning. The grant money will be used to buy a color printer, digital camera, and two CD-ROM burners, says Michele Gorman, a WFY librarian.
