Math Help on the Web
Meg McCaffrey -- School Library Journal, 4/1/2002
Encyclopedia Britannica's Mathematics in Context Online (mic.britannica.com) offers teachers another way to help middle school students with algebra, geometry, and statistics. Available by subscription to schools that use Britannica's Mathematics in Context (MiC), the Web site specifically reinforces MiC's curriculum, which offers up to eight sections. Each section includes math problems, practice sheets, interactive activities, lesson plans, links to other Web sites that further elaborate on mathematical concepts, and a lesson summary.
"Librarians should tell math teachers using MiC about the site, because it's a resource that reinforces the lessons taught in the program," says Marlene Megos, math technology supervisor for the Shelton (CT) school district. The Britannica folks consider the site a work in progress, and plan to incorporate educators' suggestions along the way.
