Bigchalk Unveils Two Reference Databases
Walter Minkel -- School Library Journal, 04/01/2002
Bigchalk, the online educational resource company, has released two new products: bigchalk Multimedia, a database filled with audio clips, video clips, and photographs for grades 6–12, and bigchalk Library Elementary, a periodical and multimedia database for K–5 students.
Bigchalk Multimedia provides students with access to 435,000 multimedia files, ranging from historical data such as Neil Armstrong's first step on the moon to recent ABC, CBS, CNN, and National Public Radio news broadcasts. Bigchalk recently signed a deal with CBS that will enable students to use the network's historical broadcast materials. Students, for example, will be able to watch former CBS newscaster Walter Cronkite inform the nation of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
The Library Elementary database, with a simpler search screen, is a completely new product, which offers materials not found in the eLibrary (Electric Library) database. Library Elementary includes age-appropriate audio and video content, maps, pictures, and articles from magazines such as Ranger Rick , Cobblestone, and Sports Illustrated for Kids.
