Surf's Up
Meg McCaffrey -- School Library Journal, 5/1/2002
Got a project on history, sports, or the arts? Don't let the name Wisconsin Educational Communications Board (ECB) fool you. The Web site's monthly Surf Report (www.ecb.org/surf) was set up for in-state users, but anyone can benefit from what it has to offer. Each month ECB chooses a topic and suggests Web sites for K–12 teachers, library media specialists, and students.
This month's focus on U.S. Presidents is particularly helpful for elementary, middle, and high school students researching a particular president, or period in U.S. history, says Peggy Garties, a multimedia analyst for ECB. Teachers and library media specialists select most of the sites, which offer lesson plans and curriculum ideas on presidents, as well as photos, biographies, political cartoons, diary entries, letters, and multimedia materials.
