The New Book of Knowledge
Meg McCaffrey -- School Library Journal, 05/01/2002
Grolier's online New Book of Knowledge (NBK) has everything its print version has to offer, and more. Not only does it have a revamped home page and more articles, but Grolier claims that it's also easier to navigate and faster to search.
The subscription-based service now offers current events and other useful tools. Homework Help, for example, teaches students how to conduct research using reference materials, indexes, and Web sites. The World History Time Line puts the past 40,000 years into perspective, and Encyclopedia Spotlight focuses on a changing array of monthly topics and then archives them. Spotlight also links to encyclopedia articles and other related information.
The new GO Guide and GO News, which were created to meet national and state curriculum standards, include activities that librarians and teachers can integrate into their lesson plans. The updated Teacher's Guide advises educators on how to help students get the most from the site. Schools and libraries can visit the Grolier Online site (www.go.grolier.com) for a free trial.
