New Multidisciplinary Activities For Educators and Students
Meg McCaffrey -- School Library Journal, 6/1/2002
The educational publisher Teacher Created Materials, Inc. has added a new batch of multidisciplinary activities to Lesson Logic, an online library of language arts and math exercises designed for K–6 educators. The Westminster, CA-based publisher's Web site now includes "thematic packs" that cover an array of grade-specific, kid-friendly topics ranging from chocolate to spiders.
The new packs weave together math, science, and social studies, and each pack directly relates to a piece of children's literature. For example, the unit on water references Joanna Cole and Bruce Degen's The Magic School Bus at the Waterworks (Scholastic, 1988). Lesson Logic, developed by Educators Publishing Service, Inc., is an online subscription resource that features more than 15,000 exercises and activities. Educators can search and preview lessons online, then print them out. Lessons are grouped according to grade level, subject, and degree of difficulty. The annual subscription rate is $99 for a single grade, or $199 for grades K–6. For a free, 30-day trial, go to www.lessonlogic.com, and click on the "Free Trial Offer" icon.
