Many Paths, One Goal
Meg McCaffrey -- School Library Journal, 9/1/2002
Recognizing that students travel many paths to reach literacy, Riverdeep Interactive Learning has developed a new learn-to-read program designed to help all types of K–3 learners succeed. Software systems aimed at instructing beginning readers are a booming industry, with Scholastic, Renaissance Learning, and LeapFrog Schoolhouse as major players. Cambridge, MA-based Riverdeep's contribution, Destination Reading, offers an assortment of materials for students needing additional help with reading.
Destination Reading is divided into two courses: "Emergent Literacy and Phonemic Awareness" for kindergartners and first graders, and "Building Fluency and Comprehension" for second and third graders. Diagnostic tests and lesson plans are included with both courses.
The software also features a unit especially devoted to the reader who starts school without a fundamental understanding of the printed word. Visit www.riverdeep.net/products/language_arts/destination_reading_intro.jhtml.
