By Gail Junion-Metz -- School Library Journal, 11/1/2002

StoryPlace: La biblioteca digital de los niños
www.storyplace.org/sp/storyplace.asp

If Spanish-speaking toddlers and preschoolers attend your library's storytime, use this top-notch site (and an LCD projector) to share these appealing Spanish-language Web stories. The site also provides related Web-based and take-home activities, as well as recommended books. Created by: Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County, NC. Grades: PreK–2. Don't Miss: The "Otras Temas" link in the preschool section. I loved the story "El Día Especial de Morris," found here under "Animales"—read it to see why! Requirements: Flash 5.0+ plug-in; sound card/speakers.

Recursos Electrónicos

Here you'll find excellent Spanish-only links for both kids and teens. The teen (Jóvenes) section features resources on getting a job, staying healthy, going to college, and other topics. The homework help section (Ayuda con las Tareas) links to both general reference materials and to subject-specific sites. Created by: Multnomah County Library, Portland, OR. Grades: 1–12. Don't Miss: The Internet resources (Recursos en Internet) section, where kids and teens can access information on nearly 40 topics, from art and architecture to transportation. English language sites are noted.

Excelente Biblioteca

This subject index is a comprehensive homework help site for kids and teens, as well as a good place for teachers and homeschooling parents to find Spanish resources on lots of subjects. The original site (Awesome Library) is in English. Created by: Dr. R. Jerry Adams, Evaluation and Development Institute, Portland, OR. Grades: 3–12. Don't Miss: the hot topics (Caliente Asuntos) links for a great list of current events.

EduHound Español
www.eduhound.com/espanol/defaultE.cfm

A nice directory site that offers links to Spanish-only resources on Hispanic culture, history, health, reference, and more. There's also a Bilingual Tutorials (Tutoría Bilingüe) section and links to Spanish-language media, from newspapers to radio and television stations. Created by: Eduhound, Inc., Broad Brook, CT. Grades: 1–9. Don't Miss: The alphabetical index for a long list of topics, available in English and Spanish.

Yupinitos
www.yupimsn.com/yupinitos

This "just for fun" site is loaded with appealing activities for upper elementary and junior high kids. Created by: TELMEX (Teléfonos de México) and Microsoft. Grades: 4–9. Don't Miss: The cool puzzles, coloring pages, and games in the "Things to Do" (Pasatiempos) and games (Juegos) sections. Requirements: Internet Explorer. Some games require additional plug-ins and sound card/speakers.
