Giant Step Winner: Multnomah County Library

Multnomah County (OR) Library has won the 2003 Giant Step Award for its Early Words program, which offers local childcare providers hands-on professional development sessions on how children learn to read. The annual Giant Step Award honors the school library or public library that has made the greatest strides in its services to students. The award, sponsored by School Library Journal and the Gale Group, carries a $10,000 prize. The award will be presented on January 26, 2003, at the American Library Association's midwinter meeting in Philadelphia.
