Editor Meredith Charpentier Dies

Meredith Charpentier, the editor of the Newbery Honor–winning children's books Sugaring Time (Macmillan, 1983) by Kathryn Lasky and Surviving the Applewhites (HarperCollins, 2002) by Stephanie Tolan, recently died at her home in New York City after a long illness. She was 58.

Charpentier worked at several important children's publishing houses, including Frederick Warne, Four Winds Press, and Morrow Junior Books. She retired as executive editor of HarperCollins Children's Books in 2002 for health reasons.
