Rutgers University's Center for International Scholarship in School Libraries has been awarded $220,459 to study the impact of library media centers on student learning. Professors Ross Todd,Carol Kuhlthau, and Nina Wacholder will examine media specialists, students, and teachers at 10 top-performing schools in New Jersey to track student learning. "We're trying to get a picture of the multiple ways in which school library programs impact student learning outcomes: the changes in knowledge, the development of information and technology skills, as well as the changes in attitudes to information and learning," says Todd. The goal of the study is to develop ways in which media specialists can better document their effect on student success.
