All That Technology Has to Offer... and Then Some
By Meg McCaffrey -- School Library Journal, 1/1/2004
Since not all kids learn the same way, the Center for Applied Special Technology (CAST) is now offering a free online toolkit to help all kinds of learners. CAST's new Digital Content in the Classroom Toolkit (
www.cast.org/digitalcontenttoolkit) is designed to help learning disabled students, struggling readers, and students who learn best through visual or auditory means. The kit does this by helping teachers explore everything the Internet has to offer—from digitized text to streaming video.
The kit also provides tips on free and low-cost software, free Web sites, model lessons, and downloadable content for teachers to create digital learning materials. There's fun stuff, too, such as Acoustica.com, which offers tons of sounds effects, like heartbeats and thunder. And did you know there's a scaled-down version of Adobe Photoshop available for under $100?
