Video of the Week:
Best Ever Sleepover! (MyBFF Series).

From SLJ May 2004

Kathleen Kelly MacMillan, Maryland School for the Deaf, Columbia -- School Library Journal, 4/21/2004

videocassette or DVD. color. 35 min. with booklet. Blue Skies Media (866/425-7257). 2003, 2004 release. ISBN 0-9744186-0-9. video: $12.95, DVD: $14.95.

Gr 1-6-The brainchild of two dads who wanted to provide wholesome fun for their preteen daughters, this first production in the MYBFF (My Best Friend Forever) series succeeds marvelously. Five best friends spend a fun-filled sleepover playing games such as “Pop the Question” (a neat twist on classic “Truth or Dare”), “Match My Moves” (a dancing game), and “Chairs into Air” (a very cool parlor trick that viewers will want to try right away). They make jeweled headbands, have a pajama fashion show, and make tasty snacks and facial masks. There’s the requisite pesky little brother, and a funny, harmless prank the girls pull on him. The young actresses are all refreshingly real, and the appealing activities are easy to reproduce, especially with the excellent how-to booklet. Additional features on the DVD include recipes for the snacks and facemasks, a blooper reel, and a hilarious behind-the-scenes segment. Aside from filling a need, this delightful program is sure to be a hit with girls and parents alike, who will also be thrilled to learn that more programs from this promising series are in the works.
