A Round for Literacy
By Staff -- School Library Journal, 5/1/2004
Six-time world boxing champion Oscar de la Hoya (left) has teamed with Mervyn's department stores to launch "Go places. Read," a four-month program that encourages students in grades K–5 to discover the joy of reading. Through June 30, students who read six library books will receive a "Reading Passport" stamped by the librarian, which can be redeemed at Mervyn's for prizes, such as a lunch box or a pair of binoculars. The passports are available at all Mervyn's stores in 14 states and at participating public libraries.
