Bojunga Wins Lindgren Award

By Staff -- School Library Journal, 5/1/2004

Lygia Bojunga, one of Brazil's best- known children's authors, is the winner of the 2004 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden will present Bojunga (left) with the prize and a check worth $663,000 on May 26 at a ceremony in Stockholm. Only one of Bojunga's works, My Friend the Painter (Harcourt, 1995), has been translated into English and published in the United States. The award was established last year by the Swedish government in memory of Lindgren, author of the Pippi Longstocking series.
