Prestigious honors go to Mordicai Gerstein, David Almond, Jim Murphy

Mordicai Gerstein's The Man Who Walked Between the Towers (Roaring Brook), this year's Caldecott Medal winner, has earned another honor—the 2004 Boston Globe-Horn Book Award for best picture book. The annual awards for excellence in children's literature were announced May 20.

Other winners are:

Fiction and poetry: The Fire-Eaters (Delacorte) by David Almond.
Nonfiction: An American Plague: The True and Terrifying Story of the Yellow Fever Epidemic of 1793 (Clarion) by Jim Murphy.

The honor books are:

Picture book: The Shape Game (Farrar) by Anthony Browne and Snow Music (Greenwillow) by Lynne Rae Perkins.
Fiction and poetry: God Went to Beauty School (HarperTempest) by Cynthia Rylant and The Amulet of Samarkand: The Bartimaeus Trilogy, Book One (Hyperion) by Jonathan Stroud.
Nonfiction: Surprising Sharks (Candlewick) written by Nicola Davies and illustrated by James Croft and The Man Who Went to the Far Side of the Moon: The Story of Apollo 11 Astronaut Michael Collins (Chronicle) by Bea Uusma Schyffert.
