Syd Hoff Dies at 91

Syd Hoff, who wrote and illustrated more than 60 books for beginning readers, died at his home in Miami Beach on May 12. He was 91. With a simple cartoon style, Hoff was best known for his book Danny and the Dinosaur (Harper, 1958), which sold more than 10 million copies. Other easy-readers by Hoff include Grizzwold (1963) and The Horse in Harry's Room (1970, both Harper & Row).
