Firebombing Suspects Caught

Staff -- School Library Journal, 7/1/2004

Two teenagers and an adult were arrested May 15 in connection with the April 5 firebombing of United Talmud Torahs school library in Montreal, which destroyed 10,000 books and left the room in ruins. Two 18-year-olds, Sleiman Elmerhebi and Simon Zogheib, were charged with arson and conspiracy, and Elmerhebi's mother, Rouba Elmerhebi Fahd, was charged as an accessory after the fact. Zogheib and Fahd were released on bail, but Elmerhebi remains in jail, pending a June 28 hearing. The library will reopen this fall.
