By Staff -- School Library Journal, 11/1/2004
William McGorry has been appointed executive vice president and publisher of Reed Business Information's (RBI) Publishing Group, which includes School Library Journal (SLJ), Library Journal(LJ), and Publishers Weekly(PW). As part of a restructuring, McGorry succeeds Joe Tessitore.
Tessitore worked with the staffs of the magazines on several relaunches, including revamped Web sites for SLJ and PW, and a magazine redesign of LJ. A library market veteran, Tessitore says, "I am proud of what we accomplished together, and I wish Bill all the best in the great School Library Journal tradition of 'serving the library market.'"
A 30-year veteran of publishing, McGorry was senior vice president of RBI's Television and Telecommunication's Group, where he presided over growth and expansion at Broadcasting & Cable, Multichannel News, Wireless Week, and TWICE. Most recently, he was executive vice president for licensing and electronic development, managing all aspects of RBI's licensing businesses, as well as expanding the company's international revenue, namely in China. "The library and publishing markets represent great opportunities in the social context of advancing the cause of literacy in the U.S.," McGorry says. "In particular, our mission is to serve the information needs of our readers electronically, as well as in print."
