By Staff -- School Library Journal, 1/1/2005
President Bush recently presented the 2004 National Humanities Medal to children's author Madeleine L'Engle, recognizing her "talent as a writer on spirituality and art and for her wonderful novels for young people." L'Engle, who is currently the librarian and writer-in-residence at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in New York City, has written more than 60 books, including A Wrinkle in Time (Farrar, 1962), a Newbery Medal winner. Charlotte Jones accepted the award at a White House ceremony on behalf of her grandmother, who was unable to attend.
