E-Rate Fix Passes

By Staff -- School Library Journal, 1/1/2005

Schools nationwide can breathe a sigh of relief—the Senate passed a bill ensuring the release of much needed e-rate funds during a late-night vote December 8, before the end of its 108th session. The federal program, which provides discounted Internet service to many schools and libraries, had been withholding millions of dollars since August due to accounting problems. "Now, [schools] can be assured that the bulk of their technology infrastructure needs will continue to be met," says Don Knezek, CEO of the International Society for Technology in Education.
