Political Star to Pen Kid's Book

By Staff -- School Library Journal, 2/1/2005

Senator Barack Obama (D-IL), who gained political stardom with an electrifying speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, has signed a $1.9 million deal with Random House. Obama will pen three books, including a children's picture book to be published by Knopf in 2006. The illustrated volume will detail a portion of Obama's childhood as the "skinny young kid with big ears and the funny name" who, years later, went on to hear that name chanted at political rallies across the country.
