Rowling Warns Fans

By Staff -- School Library Journal, 3/1/2005

Author J. K. Rowling is warning fans about a sinister plot—Internet hucksters are offering a bogus e-book version of her latest book in an effort to steal bank and credit-card information. Rowling's lawyers have since closed down the Web site www.harrybooks.info, which collected credit-card details for an alleged copy of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, to be published on July 16. "Please, please protect yourselves, your computers, and your credit cards and do not fall for these scams," writes Rowling on her official Web site (www.jkrowling.com).
