Web Site of the Month--Innovate
By Kathy Ishizuka -- School Library Journal, 3/1/2005
The bimonthly online journal Innovate features thought-provoking articles on the use of information technology in education.
The February/March 2005 issue of the peer-reviewed e-zine examines new literacies in the K–8 classroom—global, visual, informational, and digital—and how all are crucial in this era of connectivity. Librarians are vital to student literacy, as Lesley Farmer reminds us in her feature, which examines how the school library media specialist and cybrarian will change the way students consume and produce knowledge by the year 2015.
Created by the Fischler School of Education and Human Services at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL, Innovate also features a new series on Web sites that exemplify creative uses of technology in teaching. The first subject is IncSub (incsub.org), a site dedicated to open-source content management systems as tools for learning.
Logging on to Innovate is simple and free, but visitors are encouraged to do more than read. The journal provides one-button features that allow you to comment on articles, share material with colleagues, and participate in live Webcasts and discussion forums.
