Cleary Honored

By Staff -- School Library Journal, 4/1/2005

The nation's first endowed professorship in children's librarianship is now being offered by the University of Washington's Information School in honor of renowned children's writer, Beverly Cleary, creator of the beloved Ramona series. The Beverly Cleary Endowed Professorship in Children's and Youth Services will train librarians and offer continuing education to local libraries. Cleary, a 1939 graduate of the UW Information School, says, "Kids deserve books of literary quality, and librarians are so important in encouraging them to read."
