When kids complain during the summer that there's nothing to do, visit this site for tons of interesting ideas to keep them busy. Here you'll find articles with printable activities and many links to other sources for crafts, games, and more. Created by: Education World, Inc., Wallingford, CT. Don't Miss: Be sure to visit "Crisscrossing the Country—Scavenger Hunts for Kids of All Ages." It will keep kids busy—and learning—for hours. And if you're looking to learn how to make ice cream in a bag or create a balloon rocket, check out "Keep Kids' Brains Active in the Hot Summer Sun."

Make a Splash This Summer!

Designed for parents—but great for librarians looking for activities to keep young patrons occupied during the summer—this site offers lots of craft ideas, indoor and outdoor activities, games, and even kid-friendly recipes. Asparagus salad with sweet pepper confetti, anyone? Or how about a peach berry parfait? Despite the banner ads, this site is still worth a look. Created by: Walt Disney Internet Group, Burbank, CA. Don't Miss: Check out the "Summer Crafts to Wear" section for nifty T-shirt ideas for older kids and adorable firecracker hats that little ones can make this Fourth of July.

If you're a public librarian, then summer means crowds of kids in your library looking for good books and related activities. So visit this site for recommended titles and brief reviews, arranged by grade level (K–8). There are also interviews with favorite authors. Click on the link "Summer Reading Lists from Around the Web" for even more book and reading activity ideas created by librarians and teachers around the country. Created by: Education World, Inc., Wallingford, CT. Don't Miss: The six "Summer Book-tivities" articles, which contain longer reviews of books you probably already have in your collection and cool matching activities.

Teen Summer Jobs: $afety Pays

Summer may not be all fun and games for teens, who may be taking on seasonal employment. Whether they're mowing lawns, bussing tables at a local restaurant or working as a lifeguard at the local pool, you might want to show teens—and their parents—this informative Web site designed to keep them safe while on the job. Additional links address on-the-job hazards, such as water-related injuries and workplace violence. The information on this site is also available in Spanish. Created by: The Occupational Safety & Health Administration, U.S. Dept. of Labor. Don't Miss: In addition to safety information, teens will find information on their legal rights and responsibilities when employed in different jobs.
